Six raised beds (twelve by three foot) were assembled, lined with biodegradable cardboard, filled with soil, and planted with fall and winter crops. The ambitious growers sought out local purchases (many donations) of hemlock from Nichol’s Lumber Yard; barn spikes from Brookville Lumber Company; rebar from Glen Redi Mix and Herb Buller’s Construction Company; nine tons of soil from Earthworx; and Quiet Creek garlic, spinach, arugula, and thyme.
